Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway – Re-opens for its 2020 Season on the 7th March
The volunteer-led operation of the heritage railway in Gloucestershire and Worcestershire offers a round trip of 28 miles. Steam and heritage diesel trains run between Cheltenham Racecourse and Broadway through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Cotswolds. www.gwsr.com

Horse Racing – The Cheltenham Festival
For four days, during The Festival, the Cotswolds is all about National Hunt racing, with 28 races over the week. 265,000 racegoers enjoy jump racing at its best, including the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the feature race. Wartime in the Cotswolds: Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway 9.40am-6pm
This very popular event runs through the weekend, with re-enactors and entertainers dressed in 1940’s period costume. Travel on a train between Cheltenham Racecourse Station and Broadway, on a beautiful heritage railway line. You’re encouraged to dress for the period – this year’s theme is ‘The Home Front’. www.gwsr.com

GWSR – 75th Anniversary of VE Day
The early May Bank Holiday has been moved to Friday, 8 May this year, to allow for celebrations of Victory in Europe Day. VE Day 2020 sees the 75th anniversary of the formal end of World War II and the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway will be joining in with the celebratory events across the country. www.gwsr.com

With the Vale of Evesham on our doorstep, asparagus is king on local menus throughout May (actually the season begins with St George’s Day on the 24th April). The quality of local asparagus is sensational and The Broadway Hotel is a great place to experience it.

Broadway Arts Festival
Various locations in Broadway. This is an ambitious Arts Festival, now recognised as one of the best in the UK with well-known arts speakers, nationally renowned artists, outdoor theatre productions and virtuoso musicians. The BBC’s ‘Fake or Fortune’ expert, Philip Mould, hosts a lunch at The Broadway Hotel on the opening day.

Heineken ‘Race to the Tower’
The Race to the Tower is an unforgettable challenge. The ‘ultra (double) marathon of 52.4-miles leads through the hills of the Cotswold Way. It’s an amazing way to encounter the Cotswolds – some tackle it in one go, others make a weekend of it, with an overnight stay. ‘The Tower’ referred to is Broadway Tower, the final objective. www.racetothetower.com

PM NCH Country Fair and Dog Show 1pm – 5pm
A day of country pursuits from terrier racing, a family dog show and dog agility demonstrations through to crafts and food and drink products and demos.

Moreton Show – The Countryside in a Day! 9am – 6pm
One of the biggest one-day agricultural shows in the UK – and it is no surprise that this agricultural area hosts and event with so much to do. ‘Traditional and always changing’ – that’s what they say about Moreton Show. www.moretonshow.co.uk

Broadway Horticultural & Craft Show 1pm – 4:30pm
Broadway Horticultural and Craft Show is affiliated with the RHS. The show is run by a local group of volunteers. The event opens to the public at 1pm on the village green.
Sunday 13th September
Broadway Food Festival 10am – 4pm
Meet local growers and farmers with their best seasonal produce and meat. They’re joined by coffee roasters, millers, brewers, cider makers, bakers, keepers of bees bee, makers of preserves and cheesemakers, with plenty of demonstrations from the best chefs in the area (including our very own Head Chef Eric). Naturally, the Broadway Hotel is at the centre of the action, supplemented by a feast of food-to-go on The Green.

Cheltenham Literature Festival
Cheltenham’s Literature Festival is Britain’s oldest, which always seems to attract a stellar line up of literary stars. In recent years, the likes of J.K Rowling, Hillary Clinton and Paul Theroux have made appearances. First of two evenings. A lovely festive atmosphere with beautiful Christmas lights, all our Broadway shops are all open late, live music, mulled wine and festive food sold through the village. This is a perfect opportunity to enjoy the beginning of the Festive Season of Goodwill and stock up on gifts. A highlight of the Broadway year and not to be missed.
